Recap of Tanzania

We stayed in Tanzania from 8/6 - 8/18. Our trip was a pleasant one and we learned many things...

1 - Old bills (small headed bills) and worn bills are not accepted for purchases

2 - Tanzanians are fairly educated with most knowing how to speak English pretty well. We were most impressed by our tour guides since they were all college graduates.

3 - Coke light is very elusive - like spotting a leopard

4 - Zanzibarians crave independence from Tanzania

5 - Livingstone, a Scot, made an influence to end the Zanzibarian slave trade.

6 - Dar es Salaam had sketchy people at the airport and bus stop - scammers in all ways!

7 - African time = Asian time; 5 mins = 30mins...hakuna matata

8 - Hospitality in general was excellent. We felt really welcome and safe at most places.

9 - Food was savory like Asian food. Very saucy.

10 - Safari was unbelievable. The frequent and close up sightings were not expected at all.

11 - People in the outskirts of big cities actually carry things on their heads. Porters would even carry backpacks on their head rather than on their back. Strong necks!

12 - Walking and running were one of the main forms of transportation.

13 - Zanzibar's beaches were amazing. Some of the prettiest I've ever been to. The beaches were so clean, but the town was so dirty.
