Observations made during the bus ride

It's been hours and we are still on the bus to Arusha. We've been travelling non-stop since the evening of Aug 3rd. Somehow, we are not grumpy or annoyed, in fact we are still very excited and pleasant travelers...except my bum is hurting from sitting on these uncomfortable seats for hours.

Here are some observations I've made during the 8-9 hour journey:

People literally walk for miles/hours at a time. As we drove on the road, we saw random people (adults and young children) walking on the side with no house or town for miles. We also saw some bikers (bicycles...not motor bikes).

People do carry things on their heads...this include food and clothings. Anything that can balance up there may be put up there.

You eat with your hands and no utensils. We have not tried that yet, but bought tons of hand sanitizers and purells to make this ok. We saw them eating ribs and fries with ketchup and hot sauce. It looked yummy, but we opted to not try the food...just yet.

Most people seemed to not be working and just hanging around town chit chatting.

Africa is very green and dusty. There's parts of it that are very red and clay-ish.

There are roosters, chickens, donkey, goats, and cows on the side of the road.

Trees and bushes look like the way they do in the movies and the discovery channel. There are even palm trees!!!

People live in small villages in beat up shacks. They also do dress in the colorful clothing you see on tv with the scarf and all.

Traffic is not an issue. I guess most people don't own cars. They also drive on the wrong side, which is the left side of the road with the driver on the right side of the car.

They drink old fashion pops....meaning out of recycled glass. I guess that's expected given it's a developing country.

There are no Asian people except tourists here. We are the only non-locals on the bus, but the drivers and most people speak English.
