Beach bums

Friday, 27 July 2012

Finally a day we didn't have to wake up early. After that long transportation leg from Taman Negara yesterday and after the heavy drinking last night (at least compared to the rest of the trip) we were all exhausted and needed to sleep in, especially Alan. After two Aleve (magic blue pills) before bed, he still woke up with a terrible hang over. I was not at my par either, but my pills seemed to have had a better effect, maybe it's the age ;) Priscilla's body naturally produces Aleve, so she was ready to go as always.

Priscilla and I went down to the reception for some internet browsing time while waiting for Alan, he needed some more time to get his act together. One hour passed and still no sign of him. We figured he must of fell back asleep, so we went to check on him. He didn't feel much better, but he decided to go for breakfast to see if that would work. We went a quick walk down to the beach to eat at The World Cafe, a more "upscale" bar owned by the Bubu resort on the other side of Long Beach. Alan had the nasi lemak and Priscilla had a rice dish. I had the herbed chicken, but it took forever to come. Basically alan and priscilla finished their meals before mine came. It was really good though and made Alan feel a bit better..

We planned for a lazy day at the beach, which went exactly as planned. We found an umbrella and laid there the whole day. Priscilla and I combined it with occasional walks on the beach and dips in the stunning water. The water here is so warm that it actually doesn't feel that refreshing, but I'm not complaining ;). Alan slept the whole time.

After the lazy day in the sun we decided to eat at Coral Bay which is on the other side of the Island to catch the sunset (5 min walk). Coral Bay is a much more quiet beach but just as beautiful. We did a quick photo shoot at the beach with the amazing sunset as background, then bought a few beers and sat down at the peer to watch the ending. We also booked a snorkeling trip with Maya for the next day. We heard they were really good since they will bring an underwater camera and crackers to feed the fish.

For dinner we went to Mama's, recommended on TripAdvisor. We had the beach BBQ again. Priscilla and I had baracuda and Alan red snapper. After a quick order we went to the table closest to the water right on the beach. Apparently that was too far away for the waiter, who completely forgot us. It took almost one hour and several reminders before the food came. It was worth the wait though. Delicious!

We decided to go out to Black Tip at Long Beach again after dinner since its basically the only place where it's really happening on the island at night time. We went back for a quick shower and found the room with no electricity. I went down to the reception to check out what was going on, as the electricity should only be off from 2 to 6.30 pm. As I went up to the reception counter, the lights suddenly went off and then turned back on again really bright with that kind of zzzzzz sound that follows when electricity is over powering. The staff jumped off their feet like a spoked school of fish, all screaming and yelling while running down to what apparently was the generator house. Sparks came flying out of there, it was like a war scene. Apparently, a girl had used her hair dryer, which had messed up the hotel's electricity system. We decided to leave for Balck Tip to avoid being blown up in pieces together with the hotel when the next girl decides that air drying her hair isn't fast enough.

We found a table at black tip on the beach like last night and went to buy beers from the guy in the shed. We kept on drinking for a few hours before the party really started and people crowded the dance floor. We had a great time jumping and pumping for a few hours. Priscilla and I went to the bathroom before ending the evening. When we came back Alan was chatting up a group of Irish girls. They seemed to be having a good time so Priscilla and I decided to stay in the background just in case Alan needed a wing crew or a rescue team or something. After a while Alan came back alone. He had decided that they were below average so not worth spending more time on. We both tried to persuade him otherwise but he had made up his mind. We called it a night, happy and a bit tipsy..
